Copper Two Cents
The idea of a two cent piece was around for a while and in 1864 short lived series began. They were minted from 1864 to 1873 and were the first coins to bear the motto In God We Trust, a religious sentiment popular during the Civil War. Proof versions of the coin were made for all dates. 1873 is a proof only year-none were made for circulation.
