Copper Small Cents
Small cents replaced the large cent in 1857 and continue to the present day. The first small cents are referred to as the Flying Eagle variety. The smaller size cent was very popular with the public and in 1859 the design changed to the Indian Head design.
Finally in 1909, the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth, the Lincoln cent began and the obverse design continues to this day.
